The graduation ceremony took place on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at the multipurpose hall of Gasabo District.
The graduates were young women who had previously been unable to complete formal education due to different life challenges, but later gained practical skills through vocational institutions including; InyaRwanda Art Studio, Golden Garage, Ishema Garage, Tumeco Garage, Goshen Motion Studio and Bahafrica Entertainment Ltd.
Over a period of four months, the students trained in different fields such as automobile mechanics, photography, videography, and graphic design. Out of the 200 students who initially enrolled, 198 successfully completed the program.
Students from InyaRwanda Art Studio specialized in photography, videography, and graphic design, fields that continue to grow rapidly in Rwanda’s creative industry.
Speaking during the ceremony, Mukankubito Rehema from the Rwanda TVET Board [RTB] congratulated the graduates for choosing vocational education and successfully completing their training.
She said: “I congratulate these young women for choosing these professions and mastering them successfully. This is a joyful day not only for the graduates, but also for their families, trainers, and everyone who contributed to making this achievement possible. The skills you have acquired align with both Rwanda’s vision and global market demands.”
Mukankubito noted that fields such as mechanics and videography have traditionally been dominated by men, praising the graduates for breaking stereotypes and proving that women are equally capable.
She added: “We are used to seeing more boys in fields like automobile mechanics and videography. Many girls themselves often think such careers are not meant for them, even though they admire the work being done. Today, these young women have shown that talent and ability are not defined by gender.”
She also commended the students for remaining committed to their studies and resisting distractions that could have prevented them from completing the program.
Rwanda’s Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, Uwimana Consolée, praised the courage and determination demonstrated by the graduates, revealing that the program, which started in Kigali, is expected to expand to other parts of the country.
She said: “These trainings began in Kigali, but we hope to extend them across the country. We thank these young women for courageously stepping into vocational professions. You are role models to younger girls and proof that success is not determined by gender, but by confidence and determination.”
The Minister further emphasized that the students had gained more than technical knowledge during the four-month training period. She stated: “The exhibitions and testimonies you presented today show that these four months were not wasted".
"You gained professional skills, teamwork experience, and problem-solving abilities. Most importantly, you built confidence in yourselves and realized that you are capable of achieving great things. Education is a journey — this is only the beginning.”
Minister Uwimana Consolée stressed that investing in girls’ education benefits not only the individuals themselves, but also contributes to national development, sustainable economic growth, and a brighter future for society.
