Icakanzu Returns to Rwanda for ‘Tubarusha Inganji’

Icakanzu Contente reunites with Inganzo Ngari for the highly awaited "Tubarusha Inganji" show, celebrating Rwanda’s cultural heritage and resilience on August 1, 2025.

Icakanzu Contente arrived at Kigali International Airport on the night of Friday, July 25, 2025, warmly welcomed by Inganzo Ngari officials, dancers, and supporters eager for her return ahead of the cultural showcase.

Speaking to InyaRwanda, Icakanzu shared her joy about returning to Rwanda to perform with Inganzo Ngari. She described dance as her lifelong legacy and referred to the troupe as her closest family.

She expressed, “I love dancing, and I love my family. Wherever I am, I am present. I can’t imagine my family hosting an event without me being there. I thank God for giving me the opportunity to be here.”

Icakanzu highlighted the unwavering support she has received from Inganzo Ngari throughout her journey as a dancer, in her daily life, and during major milestones. She said, “They have never abandoned me. I also don’t plan to ever abandon them as long as I am around.”

She also thanked her husband for staying with their child so she could fully participate in this significant event, calling it an important moment for both her immediate and extended family.

Serge Nahimana, the leader of Inganzo Ngari, revealed that preparations for the upcoming concert are 95% complete and encouraged early ticket purchases to secure attendance.

He shared, "The concert is fast approaching. We urge everyone to purchase tickets early because it will be an extraordinary show. There will be special highlights, including Icakanzu’s much-anticipated performance.”

Serge elaborated on the event, titled “Tubarusha Inganji,” saying it aims to honor and celebrate Rwanda’s achievements and triumphs.

“Our country has faced many challenges but always found solutions. That perseverance has led us to great victories,” he added.

The concert will be held on Umuganura, a day of cultural significance in Rwanda. Serge explained that this celebratory day is ideal for reflecting on achievements and embracing progress.

He emphasized, “Umuganura is a time to rejoice over our milestones. While traditionally it involved sharing the harvest, today we celebrate advancements and victories across various sectors.”

Founded in 2006, Inganzo Ngari is dedicated to preserving Rwandan culture through dance, music, and traditional performances. Since 2009, the troupe has hosted major artistic and historical concerts, including:

  • 2010: Umuco, Kagozi ka Bugingo Kabuza u Rwanda Gucika
  • 2011: Bwiza bwa Mashira Budashira, Irora n’Irongorwa
  • 2013: Inzira ya Bene u Rwanda

The anticipated “Tubarusha Inganji” event aims to attract culture enthusiasts, revisiting Rwanda’s history while highlighting unity, resilience, and development as key cultural themes.
