The concert took place on Saturday, March 28, 2026, and was organized by the Rwandan community living in Indiana. It aimed to entertain and bring together fans of Rwandan music from different parts of the United States.
Speaking to InyaRwanda, TMC explained that performing alongside Ruti Joel was not only about music, but also about welcoming him as a guest in the state where he currently resides.
“Ruti Joel came to Indiana, where I live, so performing with him was also part of hosting and welcoming a guest,” TMC said.
While the event was successful for both performers and attendees, it sparked widespread discussion on social media after Bad Rama—who has recently been vocal in criticizing the Rwandan government—was denied entry to the show.
In videos that circulated online, Bad Rama appeared visibly upset, claiming he had been treated “like a thief” and forced out of the venue. “There was a concert for Ruti Joel. Like everyone else, I traveled a long distance to attend… but what happened when I got there, you’ve seen it. I’m not calm at all. Can you imagine being called like a thief?” he said.
Reports indicate that Bad Rama arrived at the venue accompanied by his security team. However, those in charge of managing entry reportedly informed him that he was not allowed inside. According to journalist Richard Irakoze from Rwanda Abroad, security personnel recognized him immediately upon arrival and turned him away.
“As soon as he reached the entrance, the security team identified him and told him they could not allow him in. They didn’t just deny him entry—they told him clearly that, because of his statements and positions, he was not permitted to step into that place,” Irakoze explained.
Bad Rama, who founded The Mane, later claimed that about eight people escorted him out, preventing him from attending the concert.
He had reportedly arrived near the end of the event, dressed stylishly with multiple chains, while his security team wore outfits labeled “Security.”
He also revealed that he had traveled a long distance through cities including Phoenix, Denver, and Michigan before reaching Indiana, only to be denied access.
Following the incident, Ruti Joel shared a message on social media addressing the situation, writing: “At Ruti Joel’s event, troublemakers are not allowed.”
During the concert, Ruti Joel performed some of his popular songs, including Igikobwa, Cunda, and Ngwino Mana—a collaboration with Itorero Ibihangange—delivering an energetic performance that thrilled the audience and celebrated Rwandan culture.
