In an interview with InyaRwanda, the artist—who is also involved in media—explained that this decision came after he lost some of his works, especially the music videos of songs that had deeply resonated with many listeners.
He shared this shortly after releasing a new video for his song “Ashimwe,” one of his most popular tracks from over 15 years ago, which played a significant role in uplifting and inspiring many people.
Ashimwe revealed that he is currently working on a broader project to recreate these songs in a modern style while preserving their original essence.
He said: “This song ‘Ashimwe’ is one of the older songs I recorded, but I lost its video. That’s why I’m now on a journey to recreate them in a new way—especially through live recordings, where I invite different people to join and worship together.”
He further explained that his main motivation is the powerful message carried in these songs—one that touched many hearts and is still relevant today and for future generations.
“Yes, the journey continues because these are songs that touched many hearts—both people I know and those I don’t—even up to now. That’s why I don’t want the message in them to be lost or fade away. The message in these songs is still needed today and will also be needed by future generations.”
However, Ashimwe acknowledged that the process is not easy, as it requires careful attention to maintain the originality of the songs while adapting them to modern standards.
“Recreating them is not simple. It requires careful thought and precision to ensure their authenticity is preserved. We want both those who loved them in the past and those hearing them for the first time to experience the same life and impact they’ve always carried.”
The name Dominic Ashimwe remains one of the most recognized in Rwanda’s gospel music scene.
Fans and fellow artists remember him for hit songs such as “Nemerewe Kwinjira,” “Ndishimye,” “Wambereye Imfura,” “Amashimwe,” and “Ari kumwe Natwe,” all of which have deeply impacted listeners across different generations.
This journey reflects his commitment to preserving his musical legacy and continuing to share the gospel message with both present and future audiences—using modern approaches without losing the original spirit of the songs.
