Innocent Ufitimana, the father of the talented Gospel duo Alicia and Germaine, revealed that the heartfelt concept of the song “Ndahiriwe” stems from a pivotal lesson his mother shared with him during his childhood. He recounted a striking story in which his mother, exhausted while carrying firewood, sought help from a passing child, only to face rejection.
This impactful narrative deeply shaped Ufitimana’s values, inspiring him to embed this message into “Ndahiriwe.” The music video radiates the importance of compassion and helping those in need—resonating strongly with Gospel music enthusiasts. Remarkably, the video garnered 98,000 views within just five days of its release.
Ufitimana shared, “The video showcases an elderly woman, echoing a story my mother once told me. She had been climbing a steep path, feeling drained while carrying firewood. She sought help from a nearby child, but the child refused and walked away, leaving her to struggle alone.”
He added, “In the video, Alicia, depicted as a schoolgirl wearing her secondary school uniform, initially ignores the elderly woman’s call for assistance. However, Alicia later reflects, returns, and supports her. This connects to my mother’s wise words: ‘My child, if you see someone struggling, offer your help. If you can solve someone’s problem, do so.’ These teachings have shaped me profoundly, remaining even after losing her during my youth.”
Through “Ndahiriwe,” Ufitimana seeks to inspire today’s youth to extend kindness and help to those in need. He emphasizes, “The video is a call to action—encouraging people to share their blessings and uplift others. If you’re touched by God’s grace, you’re compelled to pass that grace forward.”
The visuals further amplify this theme, showcasing Germaine, another child featured in the video, riding in a car. After Alicia assists the elderly woman, she encounters Germaine’s chauffeur-driven car. Initially indifferent, Germaine later urges the driver to stop and offer Alicia and the elderly woman a ride. This moment underscores the profound message of sharing blessings while reminding viewers that kindness reveals God’s presence in our actions.
Throughout the video, Alicia and Germaine are seen contributing to their household by grinding and sweeping while embodying a Gospel-centered lifestyle. Dressed impeccably, the sisters praise God for His blessings through soul-stirring performances.
“Ndahiriwe” is one of six music videos created by Alicia and Germaine, alongside "Rugaba," "Urufatiro," "Ihumure," "Wa Mugabo," "Uriyo," and the latest, "Ndahiriwe." Shot in the scenic Rubavu District, the visuals celebrate the sisters’ hometown while uplifting the area’s cultural heritage.
Both Alicia and Germaine penned the song “Ndahiriwe” while benefiting from their father’s guidance. Innocent Ufitimana helped refine the rhythm and melody while polishing the lyrics. In an interview with InyaRwanda, the sisters exclaimed, “The song was born out of a devoted prayer season.” Drawing inspiration from Psalm 105:8—“[He remembers] His covenant forever; the word that He commanded for a thousand generations”—the song offers hope and encourages unwavering faith among listeners.
