Celebrated Rwandan gospel singer Richard Nick Ngendahayo, famed for soul-stirring worship songs like "Ibuka," "Sumuhemu," and "Wemere Ngushime," has spent the last 15 years living in Dallas, Texas, USA.
After years away, Ngendahayo is making his grand return to Rwanda for a historic live performance at BK Arena on November 29, 2025, as part of the highly anticipated "NIWE Healing Concert." Tickets are exclusively available now on the website www.ticqet.rw.
Despite maintaining a low profile in the media and on social platforms, Ngendahayo reveals his life has been consumed by meaningful commitments, yet his heart remains deeply connected to his purpose in worshiping God.
In an intimate interview on "Chill with Kamichi," Richard Nick Ngendahayo explained that worship goes beyond music; it is a connection and lifestyle rooted in spirituality.
He stated: "Worshiping God depends on how He has called you. There are singers and intercessors, but I am a worshiper. A worshiper is someone who deeply connects with God. Even when I’m lying down, my heart is still praying. Sometimes while asleep, my soul continues pleading with God."
A Life Dedicated to Worship and Service
Before becoming a renowned gospel artist, Richard Nick Ngendahayo served as a soldier in the RPA Inkotanyi and played a significant role in Rwanda’s liberation efforts.
He reflected: "Firstly, my existence is testament to God’s mercy. Secondly, Rwanda’s continued progress is the work of God. Thirdly, the fact that I’m alive and still breathing is an incredible blessing I hold dear. Many comrades I fought alongside didn’t survive."
Ngendahayo recalled an intense operation in Byumba, now Gicumbi, where out of 45 soldiers in his unit, only six survived.
He shared: "In Byumba, we ascended a mountain facing uncertainty about the enemy’s position. Prepared to fight for every inch of our land, we eventually reached his stronghold, catching him off-guard. That night, no one in our group was injured. Tragically, 39 of my comrades didn’t make it."
Often emotional when remembering those he lost, Ngendahayo commemorates his fallen comrades while expressing gratitude for Rwanda's restored peace. He remarked that the freedom and serenity Rwanda enjoys today are clear signs of God’s enduring presence.
Faith Sustains Through Trials
In a related revelation, Kamichi, host of the interview, reflected on how the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi shaped his life. At just 11 years old, his family survived due to the strength of their faith and persistent prayers. Following those harrowing experiences, Kamichi pursued education at Saint-André School, later nurturing a successful career in media.
Ngendahayo also shared his transformative journey through his visit to Israel. Immersed in the sacred landscapes and cultural practices, he gained proficiency in instruments like the guitar and drums.
He humbly shared: "I can’t say anyone taught me how to play. By the time I returned, I somehow knew how to play the piano, even though I left with no prior inclination. It truly was God’s work."
For Ngendahayo, worship requires profound humility and an unceasing prayerful spirit. His life, spared during war and blessed with purpose, serves as a testimony to divine protection and an opportunity to honor God through music.
