Haruna Niyonzima Denies Retiring from Football

Haruna Niyonzima, who has played for several clubs including the Rwanda national team, Amavubi, and who currently does not belong to any club, has denied retiring from professional football.

As the year comes to an end, Haruna remains without a club, having last played for AS Kigali in the previous season. Although he has stepped down from the Rwanda national team, Amavubi, he has not officially retired from professional football.

On Tuesday, The New Times reported that Haruna Niyonzima had retired from football and would soon make an official announcement in an interview.

Haruna stated, “I have paused playing professional football. In the coming days, we are preparing a match to make this public. We have coordinated with FERWAFA regarding this match, and we are confident it will go well. It will be a great moment for fans and players, but I have not said that I have retired yet.”

However, through his Instagram account, Haruna denied the reports, saying he has not retired. He said, “That’s not true, I haven’t retired from this beautiful game as a player. One day I will retire… maybe soon, maybe later! Who knows? But that day has not come. Not now!”

This comes shortly after Haruna was recently selected among the coaches to receive special training at Atlético Madrid in Spain.
