Tonzi, one of Rwanda’s celebrated gospel artists, earned her Master’s degree in Theology from Gate Breakers University, which is based in Kampala, Uganda. The graduation ceremony was held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, in Kigali at the Ligue Pour La Lecture de La Bible building, located in Kacyiru. The event was a proud moment for her and other university graduates.
In an exclusive interview with InyaRwanda, Tonzi revealed her deep joy, describing this milestone as one of the biggest achievements of her life. As a passionate advocate for faith and spirituality, she shared that studying Theology had always been a dream she cherished.
She stated, “I’m so happy because it was not an easy journey to balance my studies with other responsibilities. I thank God for giving me the strength to complete my Master’s degree in Theology. It has been a lifelong dream of mine, and now I have achieved it. It is a tremendous blessing.”
Known for her inspirational music, including the iconic track "Humura," Tonzi reflected deeply on her years of study. She emphasized that her learning experience provided her with invaluable insights, which she is determined to apply in her spiritual mission of uplifting and helping others.
She explained, “I’ve learned a lot and gained so much that will help me in life’s journey and in contributing to others’ growth by inspiring them with faith rooted in God, the source of a good life and love.”
Tonzi also thanked the leadership and staff of Gate Breakers University as well as her fellow students for their important role in her academic success. “I deeply thank the University leaders who supported me, the professors, and my fellow students with whom I completed this course. May God bless them all,” she expressed.
Her gratitude extended to her family, close friends, and collaborators who stood by her throughout this journey. She also acknowledged organizations and individuals who supported her day-to-day journey, including La Benediction Shop for dressing her beautifully during her graduation.
“My family was by my side, my friends and colleagues supported me every single day, and I am particularly thankful to La Benediction Shop for dressing me beautifully on my graduation day and to everyone who cared for me. May God bless them,” she said with heartfelt appreciation.
Beyond education, Tonzi has been busy on other creative fronts. She recently published her first book titled "An Open Jail" and is now preparing to release her long-awaited tenth studio album. As a multi-talented artist, her contributions continue to inspire many.
Theology, as Tonzi passionately pursued, is a branch of study that tackles spiritual matters firmly rooted in questions of God, faith, and individual beliefs. This field broadly delves into the history of religion and the church, the analysis of the Holy Scriptures—both Old and New Testaments—and foundational principles of faith.
Students in Theology also explore concepts such as the nature of God, the universe, and humanity, along with the connection between morality and religious teachings. It provides tools for effective church leadership, worship, teaching, and evangelism. In certain institutions, the scope expands to examine how religion intersects with societal elements such as culture, politics, social welfare, and justice.
