Giants of Africa Festival is set to electrify Kigali with music superstars Kizz Daniel, Timaya, and The Ben performing at its much-anticipated closing concert on August 2nd, in BK Arena. Kizz Daniel, born Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugbe in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria, burst onto the music scene in 2014 after signing with G-Worldwide Entertainment. His breakout track "Woju" catapulted him to fame.
Later, Kizz Daniel launched Fly Boy Inc, his record label, producing smash hits like "Yeba," "Buga," "Cough (Odo)," "One Ticket," and "Twe Twe." Renowned for his powerful vocals and infectious rhythms, Kizz Daniel blends Afrobeats with R&B to captivate audiences globally. His musical brilliance earned him top awards such as the Headies and Soundcity MVP Awards, and he has graced international stages, including AFRIMA.
Timaya, with the birth name Inetimi Timaya Odon, also hails from Nigeria and started his music career in 2005. His debut track "Dem Mama" gained massive popularity, leading to his first album, True Story, released in 2007. As a leading figure in Dancehall, Reggae, and Afrobeat, Timaya has delivered iconic songs like "Bum Bum," "Sanko," "Balance," "I Can’t Kill Myself," and "Don Dada."
His dynamic performances and lyrical prowess have earned him the nickname "Egberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa," meaning "The First Leader of Bayelsa," honoring his roots. Timaya has collaborated with stars such as Sean Paul, Patoranking, and Phyno, mesmerizing fans by blending Nigerian traditional vibes with contemporary melodies.
The 2025 Giants of Africa Festival kicks off on July 27th, featuring an opening concert with South Africa’s DJ Uncle Waffles, Ruti Joel, Sherie Silver, and local talents like Kevin Kade and Boukuru. Giants of Africa, founded by Toronto Raptors President Masai Ujiri, is a powerful platform promoting African youth empowerment through basketball, education, and culture.
The festival returns to Kigali for the second time after a thrilling 2023 edition, which brought global music acts like Davido, Diamond Platnumz, Tyla, and Tiwa Savage. Rwanda now stands as a vibrant hub for this celebration of African excellence.
