The final playoff fixture was played this Sunday in Nyabihu District, bringing an end to an intense six-match playoff campaign.
Heading into the match, Rambura WFC sat at the top of the standings with 11 points, while Gakenke Ladies followed closely in second place with 9 points, making the encounter a title decider.
The game started at a balanced pace, though Rambura WFC looked more aggressive in search of an early goal. However, it was Gakenke Ladies who broke the deadlock in the 30th minute through Immaculée Nishimwe, who scored a brilliant goal after dribbling past Rambura defenders.
Just ten minutes later, Manishimwe Louise doubled the lead for Gakenke Ladies, giving her side a comfortable advantage before halftime.
In the second half, Immaculée Nishimwe returned to the scoresheet to net Gakenke’s third goal and seal the victory. Rambura WFC managed to pull one back in the 89th minute through coach-player Justine, but it was only a consolation goal.
The match attracted several prominent officials, including Bonnie Mugabe, FERWAFA competitions director Niyitanga Desire, Nyabihu District Mayor Mukandayisenga Antoinette, and Gakenke District Vice Mayor in charge of social affairs Uwamahoro Marie Thérèse.
Following their triumph, Gakenke Ladies received the championship trophy along with a cash prize of Rwf10 million, while runners-up Rambura WFC were awarded Rwf8 million.
