Two Short films in ‘Short Film Competition’ and Two in ‘Student Competition’ have been selected for this Edition which is taking place from 17 to 23 March, 2016 in Luxor City, Egypt.
“ISHABA”, a short film by Yves Amuli produced in the Filmmaking Workshop which took place during first edition of Mashariki African Film Festival and “Dark Days”, an Etisal funded short film directed by Kayambi Musafiri were lined up among 21 short films from 16 African countries in Short film official competition.
For its first edition, the newly introduced ‘Student Competition’ saw two Maisha Film Lab produced Rwandan Short films in lineup of 19 shorts from 12 African Countries.
“My Ball”, a Jules Sibomana’s 2014 Maisha Film Lab Short (funded by European Union) and “Ride in the Coffin”, a Benko H. Pluvier’s 2015 Maisha Film Lab Romantic comedy Short (funded by Stichting DOEN) made the representation.
Luxor African Film Festival will take place from 17 to 23 March, 2016 in Egyptian touristic city. The jury of short films competition is having the membership of Kenyan director Huwa Osman, Tunisian director Kaouther Ben Hania, Dr, Malek Khoury and Egyptian director Sherif El bendary and Algerian director Abdel-nour zahzah.
Yves Amuli, one of Selected filmmakers told Inyarwanda’s film critic that, “it’s really uplifting to have our film selected to this festival. We thank our mentors and everybody who has contributed to the making of this film.”
Luxor African film festival is organized by independent Shabab foundation with the support of the ministries of culture and tourism (tourism authority), minister of youth, minister of foreign affair and the filmmaking syndicate.
