Over the weekend in Huye district, the junior athletes showcased their skills at the Zanshin Karate Championship 2025, following the conclusion of the senior categories. The event featured male and female teams competing in two divisions: Kumite (combat) and Kata (demonstrations), across both men’s and women’s categories.
Individual athletes also participated in Kumite (combat), categorized by age groups, delivering thrilling performances and reinforcing the competitive spirit throughout the championship.
The Flying Eagles Karate Club from Rwanda stole the spotlight with an impressive haul of 13 medals. These victories included six gold, two silver, and five bronze medals, making them the undisputed champions of the tournament.
The Champions Sports Academy, another Rwandan team, secured the runner-up position with a total of 11 medals, highlighted by six gold and five bronze. Meanwhile, Kenya's Mukusho Karate took third place, clinching 14 medals, comprising four gold, five silver, and five bronze medals.
The fourth place was claimed by Rwanda's Legend Karate School, which earned four medals, including three gold and one bronze. Kigali Elite Sports Academy rounded out the top five with ten medals, including two gold, five silver, and three bronze.
Sensei (Instructor) Mwizerwa Dieudonné, head of the Zanshin Karate Academy and organizer of the championship, shared his joy over the event’s resounding success. He remarked, “Zanshin Karate 2025 has concluded triumphantly, leaving us with great joy. This edition was on an exceptional level, much more advanced in participation and performance compared to previous years.”
Sensei Mwizerwa emphasized the championship’s distinctive qualities this year, highlighting the meticulous organization and the unprecedented turnout of participants. He added, “What made this year special was the quality of preparation, thanks to collaborations with exceptional partners. Additionally, participation numbers soared, with strong representation from both Rwanda and international athletes.”
