The vibrant engagement ceremony took place on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Maria Beach in Rwesero, Gicumbi District. The event attracted friends and family, featuring captivating performances by Jules Sentore, Ange and Pamella's duo, and other acclaimed musicians.
Valens Kabarari revealed to InyaRwanda that the celebration symbolized the start of a new journey. His upcoming formal wedding is set to happen in France, where he resides with his family.
He shared: “The ceremony involved asking for her hand in marriage and the traditional dowry exchange. We’ve been together for many years, raising our two children. Our religious wedding will take place in France.”
This special moment coincides with Kabarari’s international promotion of his film “Vivant les Chemins de la Mémoire,” a profound narrative documenting his survival during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and his path to reconstruction.
The movie draws inspiration from his sister Judence Kayitesi’s book, “A Broken Life: In Search of Lost Parents and Lost Happiness.” In her memoir, Kayitesi shares her haunting experiences before, during, and after the Genocide, including the aftermath of a brutal attack that left her with prolonged unconsciousness.
Kabarari himself recounted: “The Genocide occurred while I was in Jari Sector. I was with my parents and other relatives. That’s where they were killed and where I survived.”
He explained that after the Genocide, he and his sister dedicated themselves to compiling their family’s history, often visiting the Jali Genocide Memorial, where their parents are interred.
The production journey of “Vivant les Chemins de la Mémoire,” directed by Valens Kabarari, also involved talents like Valens Habarugira, Louis Udahemuka, Saleh Ruzindana, Boris Igiraneza, Jean Baptiste Habineza, and Regis Nzeyuwera. The film was produced under Baho Production, co-founded by Jules Sentore and Kabarari.
Kabarari’s wedding in Rwanda harmoniously merged his narrative as a survivor, his artistry, and his family’s legacy.
