Positioned within the Giants of Africa’s broader mission, this initiative stemmed from Masai Ujiri’s dream to elevate African talent across sports, culture, and arts globally.

Spotlight: Tekno’s Journey

Known as "Golden Boy of Africa" and Slim Daddy, Tekno (Augustine Miles Kelechi) arrived in Kigali from Nigeria to spread his Afrobeat and Pop magic. As a celebrated African artist, his unique sound has captivated fans worldwide.

While Tekno has graced Rwanda with performances in the past, he had not visited for years. Prior to this event, he performed at major concerts in South Africa and the UK, further solidifying his international presence.

Born December 17, 1992 (some sources suggest 1990) in Bauchi State, Nigeria, Tekno grew up in a military family with five siblings. His upbringing across different regions in Nigeria shaped his linguistic versatility. By age eight, Tekno joined a music school, developing mastery of the guitar and piano, setting the foundation for his musical journey.

Tekno’s career skyrocketed following the success of his debut song "Holiday," released under K-Money Entertainment. The catchy hit turned him into a nationwide sensation.

In 2013, he moved to Made Men Music Group, sealing a major deal after wowing audiences in Abuja. His raw talent earned praise from industry icons like Julius Agwu and Iyanya.

Hit Songs That Made Him a Star

Tekno’s global breakthrough came in 2015 with the hit "Duro," winning Best Pop Extra Video at the Nigeria Music Video Awards. Other chart-topping hits followed, including "Wash," "Pana," "GO," "Jogodo," and "Agege" (featuring Zlatan).

His debut album "Basstards," released in 2016, and a string of successful singles solidified his prominence in African and international music scenes.

Beyond singing, Tekno is an accomplished songwriter, credited for hits like Davido’s "If," Swae Lee and Drake’s "Won’t Be Late," Ice Prince’s "Boss," among many others.

Today, Tekno’s estimated net worth of $2 million underscores his success as one of Africa’s musical trailblazers and innovators.
