The sixth stage was held this Friday, covering 84 kilometers from Rubavu to Musanze.
At the start, riders covered six neutral kilometers together before the official racing began. The peloton stayed compact until around the 15-kilometer mark when Ribeiro (Soudal), Zomermaand (Picnic), and Araya (Eritrea) launched an early breakaway.
As the race progressed, more riders joined the front group. Germany’s Miguel Heidemann of Team Rembe claimed the first King of the Mountains points at the Sashwara climb.
Rwandan cyclist Uwiduhaye Mike of Benediction Banafrica Team won the sprint points in Musanze town. Like several previous stages in this year’s Tour du Rwanda, Stage Six concluded in a sprint finish.
Einhorn Itamar secured the victory in a time of 2 hours and 59 seconds. He was closely followed by his teammate Luke Finlay Tarling, also of NSN Development Team, and Hodei Muñoz Gabina of Soudal Quick-Step Devo Team, with all three clocking the same finishing time.
The highest-placed Rwandan rider of the stage was Mugisha Moïse of Benediction Banafrica Team, who finished 15th and recorded the same time as the stage winner.
Moritz Kretschy retained the yellow jersey as the overall race leader. The best-placed Rwandan in the general classification is Samuel Niyonkuru of Team Amani, currently in 16th position, trailing the leader by 4 minutes and 59 seconds.
Tour du Rwanda 2026 continues tomorrow with Stage Seven, where riders will depart from Musanze to Kigali Pele Stadium via Gicumbi, covering a distance of 147.2 kilometers.
