Today marks a public holiday in celebration of Eid al-Adha, a globally significant Islamic festival symbolizing faith, sacrifice, and sharing within communities.
To honor the occasion, all government employees were granted a holiday, ensuring Muslims could fully partake in the festivities. Additionally, Christians were encouraged to join in supporting their peers during this special event.
This year's Eid al-Adha coincided with the legal trial of Sengabo Jean, widely recognized in the entertainment sector as Fatakumavuta. His case, involving five allegations, was first heard on May 15, 2025, at the Nyarugenge Intermediate Court.
Due to the nationwide celebrations of Eid al-Adha, court activities were halted, prompting the adjournment of Fatakumavuta's case to June 13, 2025. Maitre Fatikaramu, his defense lawyer, confirmed this update in an interview with Inyarwanda.
During earlier proceedings, Maitre Fatikaramu worked in collaboration with Maitre Bayisabe Irene to defend Fatakumavuta against the charges brought forward.
The prosecution has recommended a nine-year imprisonment for Fatakumavuta. In contrast, his legal team has petitioned for acquittal and his unconditional release.
In his plea, Fatakumavuta underscored his need for acquittal, pointing to personal health struggles with diabetes and the imperative to prioritize his responsibilities to his family.
