The court sentenced him to a fine of 1.5 million Rwandan francs and three months of community service. However, the community service sentence was suspended for six months, which led to his immediate release upon the reading of the judgment.
DJ Toxxyk had spent 135 days in detention, equivalent to four months and 14 days, after being arrested on December 20, 2025.
He was being prosecuted in connection with a road accident that occurred in the early hours of that day, in which he hit a police officer who later died from the injuries. Following the incident, he fled the scene but was later arrested in Karongi District.
During a court hearing held on January 14, 2026, he admitted to charges related to fleeing after causing an accident and involuntary manslaughter. However, he denied charges related to drug use and refusing to undergo a breathalyzer test.
The court’s decision brings an end to his detention, with conditions requiring him to comply with the law and avoid committing any further offenses during the six-month suspension period.
