DJ Regius, a talented artist launching his music career in France, has opened up about the challenges Rwandan musicians face when working abroad. He reveals that producing music in foreign lands often demands traveling long distances to collaborate with fellow Rwandans who understand their language and musical vision.
He explained, “Making music abroad as a Rwandan is not easy because there aren’t many Rwandan producers here. For me, I have to go to Belgium since Jay P Production assists me. Most studios nearby are run by foreigners. When someone doesn’t understand the language you’re singing in, they can’t effectively guide or support you. That’s why I travel to connect with fellow Rwandans who can help me create songs that resonate.”
Talking about the obstacles he’s faced, DJ Regius shared, “I’ve had to travel to Belgium, which is an 8-hour journey covering 700 kilometers. It’s not like Kigali, where you can quickly hop over to Nyamirambo, record your song, and head back home. Producing music here requires meticulous planning.”
Similarly, he noted his experience filming a music video in Lille, France, at Bombastic Studio, owned by a Rwandan. “It’s a 7-hour trip, covering 640 kilometers. Completing a video takes at least two days. Apart from the distance between myself and those I collaborate with, I haven’t faced other major challenges,” he explained.
DJ Regius's new song, "Single Mama," stands as a powerful testament to his personal upbringing. He revealed that his father passed away when he and his siblings were young, leaving their mother, then just 31 years old, to raise five children on her own.
He said, “This song tells our true story because when Dad passed away, Mom raised us by herself at just 31 years old. She ensured we grew up lacking nothing.”
Through the song, DJ Regius shines a light on the incredible sacrifices single mothers make for their children. He emphasized, “This is a tribute to those mothers who struggle and sacrifice so much to ensure their kids never feel deprived. I hope this song shows them how much we appreciate their efforts and reassures them that one day we’ll repay their love and dedication.”
The artist urged fans of Rwandan music to support his journey wholeheartedly, promising to deliver meaningful music without compromising on quality or inspiration. He assured listeners that he would continue creating songs that carry heartfelt messages.
DJ Regius is dedicated to honoring single mothers who raise their children alone, ensuring they grow up well.
The rising artist, who is based in France, said the song “Single Mama” was inspired by heartfelt moments from his own life.
Previously known for mixing music as a DJ, Regius is now carving his path as a singer and songwriter.
