Sandrine Umutoni delivered an inspiring address on Thursday, July 17, 2025, during the closing of the "Cultural Diplomacy UnConference 2025." This event, part of the renowned Ubumuntu Arts Festival, unfolded at the Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village, popularly known as Camp Kigali.

The discussions emphasized the critical importance of art and culture in connecting diverse nations, fostering peace through meaningful dialogue and actions, and strengthening global relationships with culture-based diplomacy as a foundation.

In a message brimming with hope, Sandrine Umutoni shared that Rwanda has emerged from monumental historical challenges to embrace unity. The nation now aims to champion peace, development, and humanity using art and cultural expression.

She remarked, "In Rwanda, we have come to deeply understand and respect the transformative power of culture. It has helped us confront historical scars, rebuild hope, and reclaim our voice in telling our stories."

Expressing heartfelt gratitude, Sandrine acknowledged those instrumental in educating others through the "Explore Cultural Diplomacy Certificate Program." She referred to them as "architects of Rwanda's new narrative on the global stage."

"You have become living examples of how sharing knowledge rooted in cultural tradition and expertise can preserve national heritage while shaping the future."

Highlighting the event’s impact, Sandrine underscored that cultural diplomacy is not an exclusive privilege but "the cornerstone of our continent’s future."

She continued, "The discussions inspired us to protect and preserve our cultural identity while aligning it with economic and governance priorities. Culture holds the power to transform nations and elevate livelihoods."

In her thought-provoking, visionary remarks, she affirmed: "In Kinyarwanda, we say, 'Culture is our heritage.' It is our duty to safeguard, advance, and cherish it for a peaceful tomorrow."

Sandrine urged attendees to reflect on their roles in reshaping the world, encouraging them to harness technology responsibly to boost artistic ambitions and global impact.

She called upon participants to protect traditions and oral storytelling, ensuring future generations discover the wealth hidden within their cultural roots.

Further, Sandrine advocated for reimagining collaboration between the Global North and South, leveraging shared heritage to promote peace, driven by art and culture.

She extended recognition to Hope Azeda, founder of the Ubumuntu Arts Festival, applauding the visionary leadership and collaboration that positioned art as a pillar of growth and humanity in Africa.

She also honored esteemed educators—Dr. Melih Barut (Hacettepe University, Türkiye), Dr. Federica Olivares, Dr. Nicholas Cull, and Dr. Vanessa Tinker—for their committed efforts in enhancing cultural knowledge and showcasing Rwanda’s potential on the international stage.
