Yesterday, Burundi's U-20 Women's National Team hosted Zambia in a thrilling qualifier for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, bringing international football back to the country after a lengthy hiatus.
The match took place at the newly renovated Intwari Stadium in Bujumbura, a historic event for both the venue and Burundi as a whole. For four years, the stadium had been unable to host international games due to failures to meet standards set by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). After extensive renovations and approval, Intwari Stadium now proudly offers seating for over 14,000 spectators, ensuring a modern and comfortable experience for fans.
Despite the joyous atmosphere surrounding the stadium’s reopening, the Burundi U-20 Women's National Team fell 2-1 to Zambia in a tightly contested match.
Adding to the excitement, Intwari Stadium will host another major event this Saturday, where Flambeau du Centre FC will face Al Akhdar SC in the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Burundi resumes hosting international matches at the renovated Intwari Stadium.
