Bulldog Defends Tom Close's Legacy Amid Heated Criticism from Ngabo Roben

Journalist Ngabo Roben sparked controversy, calling Tom Close overrated. Bulldog defended Tom Close's impact, while Close dropped "Cana Itara," his latest song.

In recent days, social media was buzzing with a heated debate triggered by journalist Ngabo Roben, who claimed that Tom Close is overrated and should retire to allow others to excel in the music industry.

The remarks sparked mixed reactions. Some accused Ngabo Roben of undermining Tom Close's achievements and legacy, while others defended Roben’s freedom to express his opinion.

Renowned music figure Bulldog stepped in to defend Tom Close, asserting that Ngabo Roben is too young to comprehend the profound impact Tom Close has had on Rwanda’s music industry.

Bulldog stated, “I believe that young man shared his opinion, but he’s too young to know the history. I know him—he’s a child to me, and Tom Close is my senior. When Tom Close was reshaping music in Rwanda, Ngabo Roben wasn’t around to see it firsthand.”

Highlighting Tom Close's significant contributions, Bulldog explained how his work paved the way for the growth of the industry. He said, “Anyone who witnessed that era knows Tom Close’s key contributions to our music scene. It's not only about him being talented or extraordinary—it's about recognizing his role in elevating music from where it was to where it is today.”

Bulldog also acknowledged Tom Close’s critical role in introducing big names like The Ben to the music scene and providing job opportunities for many in the entertainment sector, enabling artists to support themselves and their families.

He emphasized, “He introduced The Ben to the industry and created spaces where other artists could thrive. His efforts have had a broad impact. To truly honor him, we must reflect on his leadership in supporting the music community.”

Despite standing firmly by Tom Close, Bulldog pointed out that Ngabo Roben should not face excessive backlash for his comments, as freedom of speech is a fundamental value in Rwanda. He remarked, “The young man expressed his opinion. People shouldn’t attack him for that. If that’s his perspective, we live in a country where opinions are free to be shared.”

Amid the debates, Tom Close avoided addressing the criticisms directly. Instead, he shifted focus to his work, releasing a new song titled “Cana Itara,” featuring Green P and P Fla. This creative move demonstrates his dedication to music rather than engaging in online controversies.
