On Friday, October 10, 2025, the Gasabo Intermediate Court issued its verdict in the high-profile case involving Bishop Gafaranga. The court sentenced him to a one-year suspended prison sentence after finding him guilty of domestic violence, including harassment of his wife, as well as committing assault and battery.
Bishop Gafaranga was detained during the trial and was immediately freed upon the verdict. His time in prison totaled five months, following his arrest by the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) on May 7, 2025.
When the case initially began, Bishop Gafaranga applied for provisional release, but the Nyamata Primary Court in Bugesera District instead ordered a 30-day preventive detention. Determined to secure his release, he appealed to the Gasabo Intermediate Court, but his appeal was dismissed, leading him to face trial and receive the final judgment.
