Since the Basketball Africa League (BAL) debuted in 2021, Rwanda has proudly hosted the finals every year. This time, however, Kigali was the venue for the Nile Conference games, while the much-anticipated finals will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa, from June 6 to June 14, 2025.
The Nile Conference games ignited BK Arena from May 17 to May 25. The event concluded with APR BBC overcoming Nairobi City Thunder (Kenya) in a nail-biting match, earning a hard-fought victory with a score of 77 to 74. This stellar performance secured APR BBC a coveted spot in the finals, as basketball fever took over the vibrant streets of Kigali.
Joining APR BBC in the finals is Al Ahli Tripoli Basketball Club from Libya, which completed the Nile Conference games undefeated. Since Rwanda first hosted BAL games, the league has continually pulled in massive crowds, including high-profile celebrities and notable personalities. This year, basketball fans and Rwanda’s enthusiastic supporters ensured the Nile Conference was a spectacle to remember.
Adonis Filer, an APR BBC player recovering from an injury, was present at the games alongside his wife Kathia, showcasing unwavering support for his team.
Miss Nishimwe Naomie and her husband Michael Tesfay were another celebrity pair spotted enjoying live matches during the BAL 2025 Nile Conference.
