Bahavu Jeannette Shines Spotlight on Marriage Challenges in 'Urukundo rw’Inzitane'

Rwandan star Bahavu Jeannette addresses family and relationship struggles in her film 'Urukundo rw’Inzitane' ('Love's Obstacles'), streaming now on YouTube.

Rwandan actress Bahavu Jeannette shared her perspective on marriage challenges through her new film "Urukundo rw’Inzitane" ("Love's Obstacles") during an exclusive interview with InyaRwanda. Currently streaming on YouTube, the film addresses complex family issues, particularly in relationships formed without a clear understanding of marriage’s significance.

She remarked: "Some approach marriage as a temporary arrangement—with the mindset of being here today and gone tomorrow—as if that’s acceptable. People may have children without taking responsibility for raising them, thinking it’s inconsequential. It's troubling because the family structure, comprising husband, wife, and children, seems to have lost its esteemed value in our society."

"Urukundo rw’Inzitane" follows Bahavu's successful projects like "Impanga," "Bad Choice," and "My Father in Law," which have cemented her reputation as a prominent figure in Rwanda's film industry.

In her latest film, Bahavu aims to highlight how materialism, superficial appearances, and societal pressures often influence people’s decision to marry. These foundations lack mutual love and understanding, ultimately leading relationships to fall apart.

She added: "The film explores common family conflicts that arise from seemingly small problems but can escalate into major issues—often leaving at least one partner fighting to save the marriage."

Bahavu revealed that audience feedback suggests her film resonates deeply with many viewers. She noted that her fans often encourage her to focus on themes that promote safeguarding family values in Rwanda.

This accomplished actress believes that the narrative in "Urukundo rw’Inzitane" underscores the critical role played by Rwanda's Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion (MIGEPROF). The organization is tasked with teaching the importance of family values to Rwandans.

She emphasized: "The Ministry of Family has an enormous responsibility to educate people on family values using every available method. It's essential to prepare future generations early, instilling in them the knowledge that family is a vital institution worth preserving."

Bahavu also highlighted the need for increased initiatives that promote the value of family in society. She urged young couples to carefully evaluate their readiness for marriage, understanding it as the cornerstone of life and the nation’s development rather than a mere experiment.
