The masterclass took place on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Ubumwe Grande Hotel, featuring facilitators from various organizations and prominent figures in the entertainment industry. Participants had the chance to ask questions and receive practical advice directly from the experts.
Muhire Alexis, Program Director at Imbuto Foundation, welcomed the attendees, noting that the event brought together artists, entrepreneurs, and industry experts. He praised the collaboration and guidance provided, emphasizing that this inspired the creation of the training sessions.
The main focus of the training was: “How to grow as an artist and develop a sustainable career in the arts.”Discussions covered the knowledge artists need, the challenges they face, and practical strategies to promote their work and maximize the value of their creative output.
Entrepreneur and comedian Arthur Nkusi shared his personal journey, the obstacles he faced, and the lessons he learned along the way. He explained the key elements artists need to transform their talent into a professional and sustainable career.
Malik Shaffy Lizinde, founder of Kina Rwanda, also spoke to the artists, emphasizing the importance of self-awareness and recognizing the value of their talent, which helps in planning for growth and success. He reminded them that building a brand takes time, patience, persistence, and strategic thinking to turn talent into profit.
Kellen Twinamatsiko, from Rwanda Development Board (RDB), highlighted the importance of registering creative works. She explained that registration protects intellectual property, prevents misuse by others, and ensures artists can earn legal income from their creations.
Isaac Muraganwa, representing the Ministry of Youth and Arts Development, thanked the participants and reaffirmed that arts can be a sustainable profession, providing both livelihood and social impact. He emphasized that the government has invested in the sector to create a safe, supportive environment for artists to thrive.
The Ministry continues to implement measures that allow artists to work professionally and securely, while also promoting initiatives to strengthen the growth of the arts industry in Rwanda.
