The Rwandan national team, known as Amavubi, departed from Kigali International Airport in Kanombe early on Saturday morning, October 11, 2025, for South Africa. The team remains determined to showcase their strength in their last match of the qualifiers.
This journey comes right after a close 1-0 loss to Benin on Friday at the Amahoro Stadium. The Amavubi team, while resilient, faced challenges throughout the campaign.
Amavubi will face South Africa on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 6:30 PM at the Mbombela Stadium. This match marks their final game in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, with the tournament slated to take place in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Rwanda is part of Group C in these qualifiers.
Unfortunately, Rwanda’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have come to an end. The team currently stands in fourth place in their group with 11 points, lacking the momentum needed to secure a spot at the next stage.
Group leader Benin remains at the top with 17 points, holding onto their qualification hopes. Meanwhile, South Africa claims second place with 15 points, followed by Nigeria in third place with 14 points.
Though qualification is out of reach, the Amavubi team is focused on finishing the campaign on a positive note, showcasing their potential and dedication to their fans.
