Alicia and Germaine celebrate first song to hit 1 Million YouTube views

Rwandan Gospel duo Alicia and Germaine continue to make history in the Gospel music industry after their song “Uriyo” became their first track to surpass 1 million views on YouTube — a milestone they describe as both a special blessing and a sign of the immense love they receive from their fans.

The Rubavu-born singers said this achievement is far more than just numbers to them. Instead, they see it as proof of God’s grace that has guided them throughout their musical journey, as well as the unwavering support they continue to receive from their audience.

In a message shared on their social media platforms, Alicia and Germaine expressed overwhelming joy after reaching the milestone, just a year and a half into their Gospel music ministry.

They wrote: “Today our hearts are filled with joy and gratitude because our song ‘Uriyo’ has reached 1 Million Views. This is not just numbers to us, but a sign of your love and God’s faithfulness throughout our music journey.”

The duo went on to thank God for being with them since the beginning of their career and for giving them the strength, grace, and talent to continue spreading His message through music.

They said: “First of all, we thank Almighty God who has always been with us, giving us strength, grace, and the gift to continue serving Him through music.”

Alicia and Germaine also extended gratitude to everyone who has supported them since the start of their career, saying the love from their fans motivates them to continue creating songs that heal hearts and glorify God.

They added: “We also thank everyone who listened to us, shared our music, supported us, prayed for us, and continued encouraging us. Your love inspires us to keep creating songs that touch people’s hearts and honor God. This victory does not belong to us alone — it belongs to all of us.”

Innocent Ufitimana says reaching 1 Million views is a major achievement

Their manager and CEO of ABA Music, Innocent Ufitimana, popularly known as Papa Innocent, described the milestone as a huge accomplishment, especially for artists who have spent only a short time in the music industry.

Speaking to InyaRwanda, he said they are grateful for the way people continue embracing the Gospel message carried in Alicia and Germaine’s songs.

He said: “Reaching 1 Million views for Alicia and Germaine is a very significant achievement because uploading a song on YouTube and having it watched by one million people is not easy.”

Papa Innocent added that since the beginning of their music journey, their dream has always been to spread the Gospel message as far as possible.

He explained: “We are extremely happy because this shows us that we have people who love and appreciate what we do. We always desired for our songs to reach many people so they could hear the good message they carry. Our God is great.”

He further stated that despite the challenges and sacrifices they face in their music ministry, seeing God continue to help them achieve their goals gives them strength to keep going.

“I am grateful that despite all the struggles we face in this ministry, God has always gone before us and we simply follow Him. Being able to create a song that is loved and watched by many people is a special blessing for us,” he said.

“Uriyo” makes history as the duo competes for major awards

The 1 Million views milestone comes at a time when Alicia and Germaine are also competing in the second edition of the Rubavu Music Awards and Talent Detection [RMA].

The awards, organized by Future Novelty Company and Vision Jeunesse Nouvelle in partnership with the Rubavu District, aim to promote and support artists from Rubavu and the Western Province, alongside nationally recognized artists.

The duo is nominated in multiple categories, including Best Rubavu Gospel Artist, while their songs “Ibendera” and “Uriyo” are competing in the Rubavu Video of the Year category.

Voting is set to begin on May 15, 2026, through the Vision Jeunesse Nouvelle platform, with public votes accounting for 50% and entertainment journalists contributing the remaining 50%. The awards ceremony will take place on May 30, 2026, at Kivu Intare Arena.

The competition also features some of Rwanda’s biggest artists in the Countrywide Artist of the Year category, including Bruce Melodie, Chriss Eazy, Kevin Kade, Element Eleee, Alyn Sano, and Muthoni Drummer Queen.

Already making history in Gospel music

During the inaugural edition of the RMA awards, Alicia and Germaine won the Best Gospel Artist in Western Provinceaward.

Currently nominated in two categories, Papa Innocent says the recognition gives them confidence and motivation to continue working harder.

He said: “This is our second time participating in this competition. We want to win it, and we are grateful for the trust people continue to place in us. Rubavu is home, and we must raise the flag of Rubavu District high.”

Although they have only spent a year and a half in music, Alicia and Germaine have already released seven songs, including “Urufatiro,” “Rugaba,” “Wa Mugabo,” “Ihumure,” “Ibendera,” “Ndahiriwe,” and “Uriyo,” which reached 1 million views in just 11 months on YouTube.

The duo also recently made headlines after performing at the massive Easter Jubilee concert by Ben and Chance held at BK Arena on April 5, 2026. The Easter event also featured Papi Clever and Dorcas and Pastor Ngoga Christophe.

Their songs continue to impact many lives, with several listeners sharing testimonies about leaving sinful lifestyles and returning to God because of the messages in their music.

Expanding their influence across Africa

Beyond Rwanda, Alicia and Germaine are also gaining recognition across Africa. They were recently nominated in the Top African Gospel Group/Duo category alongside major Gospel groups from across the continent.

Among the nominees were Joyous Celebration, Karura Voices, Midnight Crew, Team Eternity Ghana, and other celebrated African Gospel acts.

The duo also recently won the Best Star New Gospel Artist in Africa award at the Shining Star Africa Awards 2026 held in Kigali on March 7, 2026.

They dedicated the award to all Gospel artists, describing it as a major step in their mission to spread the Gospel message across the world through music.
