As a teenager, Lecrae faced challenges, including being forbidden by his grandmother from watching Hiphop music videos. He secretly indulged in them at night, and by the age of 16, he developed harmful habits involving drugs and negative behaviors.
In sharing his testimony, Lecrae recounted being arrested for theft during high school. He experimented with a range of drugs—excluding heroin and crack cocaine—before his life began to change.
According to reports by CNN, Lecrae brought his Bible, gifted by his grandmother, even while engaging in drug use. After an arrest, a police officer noticed the Bible and decided to release him on the condition that he would abandon drugs forever.
Despite this turning point, Lecrae's struggles with addiction intensified. His frustration reached a climax as he tore the pages out of his Bible, refusing to even look at it.
A decisive moment came when Lecrae attended church, where he met Darragh Moore, now his wife. Following a powerful sermon delivered by Pastor James White of Christ Our King Community Church, Lecrae embraced the Christian faith, changing his life and music forever.
