As announced by the Rwanda Development Board (RDB), Rwanda has entered a renewed three-year partnership with FC Bayern Munich, lasting until 2028. The collaboration, which previously focused on the "Visit Rwanda" tourism campaign, is now set to expand into broader youth talent development initiatives.
Jan-Christian Dreesen, CEO of FC Bayern Munich, highlighted the importance of the extended agreement, emphasizing its role in enhancing the academy's reach and impact in Kigali.
He stated: “Through forward-thinking discussions on our shared vision, the agreements we've secured form a key milestone in our partnership with RDB. Our aim is to further bolster our programs in Kigali via the FC Bayern Munich Academy.
We are transforming this successful commercial collaboration into a strategic initiative to grow the FC Bayern Munich Academy, focusing on football excellence and impactful social projects in partnership with RDB.”
Jean-Guy Afrika, CEO of RDB, reiterated Rwanda's commitment to fast-tracking sports development and creating opportunities for young talent through the collaboration.
He commented: “The incredible success of FC Bayern Munich Academy in Kigali exemplifies the transformative potential of sports partnerships. As we embark on this new phase, we are scaling up efforts to accelerate sports growth, prioritizing talent identification, advanced coaching, and the development of modern sports infrastructure.
This partnership with FC Bayern strengthens Rwanda's broader vision of becoming a leading hub for tourism, investment, and international sports.”
Adding to this positive momentum, two promising Rwandan talents, Ndayishimiye Barthazar and David Okoce, were recently selected to join FC Bayern Munich’s U-19 team for 2025. This milestone highlights Rwanda's growing reputation as a leader in fostering youth sports excellence.
