She shared these details in an interview with InyaRwanda following the release of her new song, ‘Ijuru Rirakwibutse’. During the interview, she explained what prompted her return to Rwanda, the challenges she faced while living abroad and what fans can expect from this new chapter of her musical journey.
Liza Mugisha said her love for Rwanda was one of the main reasons she chose to return. She explained that no matter where someone lives in the world, their home country always holds a special place in their heart.
“I chose to return to Rwanda because I love my country so much. Being away from Rwanda had become a burden for me because, no matter where you are, home will always be home,” she said.
She added that, beyond her love for Rwanda, she also felt a calling to serve God through music, and believed it was important to continue that mission in her home country, alongside fellow Rwandans.
Liza stressed that her decision was not made hastily. Instead, she took time to reflect before deciding to return permanently.
“It is a decision I made after giving it careful thought, and I have returned for good. Rwanda is our home, and I am happy to be back in my country,” she said.
During her time abroad, Liza went two years without releasing a new song. This absence may have left some fans wondering whether she had put her music career on hold or whether other circumstances had prevented her from releasing new music.
In the interview, she explained that living abroad was among the major challenges that made it difficult for her to release songs as frequently as she wanted.
She said that although she never abandoned music or her ministry, there were several things she found difficult to accomplish while outside Rwanda. She made different attempts to keep her musical activities going but repeatedly encountered challenges that prevented her plans from progressing as expected.
“Although I remained committed to making music and serving God, many things were not easy to accomplish while I was outside the country. I tried several times, but I faced challenges that prevented me from achieving what I had hoped for,” she explained.
However, Liza said the two years she spent without releasing music were not wasted, nor did they mean she had abandoned her calling. Instead, she used that period to learn lessons that helped her grow both spiritually and musically.
She said she continued learning, preparing and being patient, insisting that she never gave up on the dream she believes God had placed in her heart.
After a considerable period without releasing new music, Liza says she is now returning with renewed preparation, clear goals and a stronger vision for what she wants to share with her audience.
She emphasized that her return is not simply about releasing more songs. Rather, she wants her music to play a meaningful role in spreading the Gospel and encouraging people through the Word of God.
Reflecting on this new chapter, she said she had worked to find solutions to some of the challenges that previously prevented her from achieving her goals, and now feels ready to take another step forward.
“Today, I am not returning simply to release songs. I am coming back with a vision, goals and a message that I want to share with people through my music,” she said.
She added that she wants her music to remain a tool for spreading the Gospel, strengthening people's faith and giving them renewed hope and strength in their lives.
To make it clear that she does not view her return as a temporary move, Liza used the English phrase: “I’m here to stay.”
She explained that she had returned to remain active in music, continue creating songs and make her contribution to the ministry she believes God has called her to fulfil.
Her return to Rwanda, together with the release of ‘Ijuru Rirakwibutse’, could mark the beginning of a new chapter in her musical journey. She hopes to bring together her calling to serve God and her vision of reaching more people through her music.
