The race concluded on Sunday, March 1, 2026, with the eighth and final stage, which covered a distance of 83.8 kilometers through Kigali. The route passed through KCC (Start) – Gishushu – RDB – MTN HQ – Nyarutarama Stadium – UTEXRWA Road – Tennis Club Road – Frontier – Gold Club – SOS – MINAGRI – Meridien – KBAC – RIB HQ – Kimicanga – Kimihurura (Kwa Mignone) – Stone Road – Kabindi – KABC – KCC.
The final stage was officially started by Prime Minister Dr. Nsengiyumva Justin, with riders initially riding at a controlled pace before the competitive racing began.
Rwandan rider Ngendahayo Jeremie of May Stars broke away early, joined later by Aman Awet of Istanbul and Bruno Martins of Localiza.
Bruno Martins claimed the first sprint points at KCC at kilometer 15.4. The lead group was formed by Martins and Aman as they pushed ahead. Martins also took the first mountain points at kilometer 38.3. As the race entered the final kilometers, the lead group began closing gaps with the front riders. By kilometer 60, the main group had caught up with Aman and Martins.
Martins also won the second mountain points. In the final kilometers, Araya and Da Silva attempted a breakaway but were eventually caught by the main peloton. The stage was ultimately won by Henok Mulubrhan, 26, from Eritrea.
This was the only stage of the race won by an African rider this year. Mulubrhan completed the stage in 1 hour, 59 minutes, and 37 seconds, followed closely by Cuylits Mauro of Lotto–Groupe Wanty, while Marti Soriano Pau of NSN Development Team finished just one second behind in third.
The best-performing Rwandan on the stage was Muhoza Eric of Team Amani, who finished seventh, three seconds behind the winner.
23-year-old German rider Moritz Kretschy of NSN Development Team officially secured the overall Tour du Rwanda 2026 victory. He had been wearing the yellow jersey since Stage Four, when he finished second in the Karongi-to-Rubavu stage. Kretschy completed the tour in 23 hours, 8 minutes, and 48 seconds, finishing 2 minutes and 8 seconds ahead of Adamietz Johannes of Rembe|Rad-Net.
The top Rwandan finisher overall was Niyonkuru Samuel of Team Amani, who placed 16th, 5 minutes and 51 seconds behind Kretschy.
