The Rwanda Defense Forces (APR FC) remains one of Rwanda's most closely watched football clubs during every transfer window. This season, the club has added eight new players to its roster, featuring three international stars and five local talents. The new signings include Iraguha Hadji, Bugingo Hakim, Hakizimana Adolphe, Iradukunda Pacifique, Nduwayo Alex, Ronald Ssekiganda, William Togui, and Memel Dao.
As the league opener approaches, fans eagerly monitor these new recruits during pre-season friendlies and training sessions. So far, APR FC has completed five matches as part of its preparations.
APR FC made a strong impression in its first game, defeating Gasogi United with a remarkable 4-0 win. However, the second match ended in a 2-2 draw against Gorilla FC. In the third game, APR crushed Intare FC in Shyorongi, but subsequent matches witnessed more balanced outcomes, including a 1-1 draw with Gorilla FC and a narrow 2-1 loss to Police FC at the Kigali Pele Stadium.
The defeat to Police FC raised concerns among some fans about the team’s readiness, with many pointing to the need for improvement, especially in the goalkeeping department.
On the brighter side, APR FC supporters are impressed by the promising performances of players like Memel Dao. They also commend coach Abderrahim Taleb’s tactical approach, particularly in substitution and squad rotation strategies.
Is APR FC Ready to Silence Doubts?
Renowned football manager Pep Guardiola often remarks on the importance of pre-season matches. They serve as a platform for physical conditioning, refining gameplay strategies, and fostering player cohesion. For APR FC, recent friendly matches saw three of its new players—William Togui, Memel Dao, and Iradukunda Pacifique—earning starting positions among the eleven.
One highly anticipated addition, Ronald Ssekiganda, has yet to feature in any match due to an injury he brought with him upon signing this summer. Meanwhile, coach Taleb has introduced a modern attacking strategy that heavily relies on a trio of strikers: Mamadou Sy, William Togui, and Djibrill Outtara.
In addition to preparing its new squad, APR FC faced tough competition during its pre-season matches. Gorilla FC, widely regarded as a rising contender for the upcoming season, showcased strengthened gameplay stemming from new player acquisitions and tactical improvements. Police FC also proved to be a formidable opponent, bolstered by its newly appointed coach and strong lineup of players.
As the season draws closer, some APR FC fans continue to express doubts, while others remain optimistic about the club’s new additions and tactical progress.
