On Monday at 3:00 PM at KMC Stadium in Tanzania, APR FC battled Kinondoni Municipal Council F.C (KMC FC) in the final Group B match of the CECAFA Kagame Cup, showcasing resilience and determination.
Representing Rwanda, APR FC kicked off with impressive ball control and distribution, putting pressure on their opponents. Despite advancing to the goal area multiple times, players like William Togui couldn’t capitalize on the chances, often losing possession in critical moments.
The military team maintained dominance by continually threatening KMC FC's defense, particularly through Hakim Kiwanuka, who skillfully delivered quality crosses. However, converting those setups into goals proved to be a persistent challenge.
APR FC broke the deadlock in the 39th minute thanks to a well-placed free kick by Bugingo Hakim. Though KMC defenders managed to clear the ball, Niyigena Clement opportunistically turned and sent it soaring into the back of the net, igniting celebrations.
KMC FC quickly responded in the 43rd minute with an expertly crafted equalizer. Erick Mwijage Edson capitalized on a precise assist, striking a powerful shot that Nshimiyimana Yunusu couldn’t intercept, leveling the match.
Entering the second half, APR FC maintained control and nearly earned a penalty in the 49th minute following what appeared to be a foul on Hakim Kiwanuka. However, the referee decided against awarding one, leaving the crowd in suspense.
Ultimately, neither side managed to score a decisive second goal, concluding the game in a balanced 1-1 draw. The result secured APR FC's position at the top of Group B, earning them a coveted spot in the semifinals. Meanwhile, KMC FC advanced as the highest-performing third-placed team across all groups.
APR FC is set to face the Group A runner-up in the semifinals this Friday, promising another thrilling encounter in the CECAFA Kagame Cup 2025.
