RIB Arrests WASAC Officials Over Corruption and Sexual Misconduct Allegations

Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) detains WASAC leaders for corruption, favoritism, and sexual misconduct allegations amid an ongoing investigation.

The Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) announced late Thursday via a statement on its X account that it has arrested Prof. Omar Munyaneza, the former Director General of Rwanda Water and Sanitation Corporation (WASAC), alongside two additional officials from the same institution.

According to RIB, the detained individuals are under investigation for serious allegations, including corruption, favoritism, and soliciting sexual favors, which contravene Rwanda's anti-corruption laws.

The bureau further clarified that the suspects are currently being held at RIB stations located in Kimihurura and Kicukiro as their case files undergo processing for submission to the Prosecution.

RIB expressed gratitude to whistleblowers and individuals who contributed to uncovering these unlawful activities, recognizing their role in enhancing accountability and justice.

In its statement, RIB also issued a stern warning against misusing authority and workplace positions for personal benefit. It emphasized that such misconduct not only violates legal statutes but also compromises public trust and welfare. RIB pledged to continue combating these practices to ensure the interests of the public are safeguarded.
