This couple, once regarded as a symbol of love in the French music scene, was known for maintaining a private life away from the media spotlight. Demdem, whose real name is Adja-Damba Dante, broke the news of their separation on Instagram on Saturday, June 14. Accompanying her announcement were two selfies captioned: "Célibataire" ("Single") and "Je suis divorcée" ("I am divorced").
Gims, the renowned artist and former member of the celebrated group Sexion d’Assaut, has so far remained silent on the matter.
The reasons for their divorce are still unclear, but Instagram posts by Demdem from 2024 hint at potential tensions in their marriage. In one post, she wrote: "When a man refuses to change, he seeks a woman who accepts him as he is, so he never has to mature. This is why such men often ruin their relationships with strong women, because strong women set boundaries and hold high values."
She continued, asserting: "Never think you’re not worthy to them, cherie. Most of the time, you’re above their ability to match your worth, so they choose someone easier to handle who accepts everything."
These strong statements quickly went viral and even caught the attention of artist Booba, known for his unapologetic candor and ongoing feud with Gims. He remarked: "Things can be fixed between you two. You collaborate; don’t lose hope. He dumped you, but you weren’t innocent either. You’re bigger than this. It’s temporary. Stay strong—you know how to handle things. Go back home."
Gims and Demdem have been acquainted since their youth, culminating in their marriage in 2005. Together, they have four children: Haby, born in 2020, Aïsha, and Yahya Alou.
Although the couple initially guarded their privacy, they began making public appearances more frequently starting in 2016. Demdem starred in the music video for Gims’ hit song "Tout Donner," prompting him to share in an interview with Magali Berdah: "Demdem is very different from me. She doesn’t enjoy the spotlight at all. I was the one who asked her to feature in the ‘Tout Donner’ video to show respect to her and bring her into my world, as I was often away."
Following her appearance, the couple attended events such as the NRJ Music Awards and the Cannes Film Festival and even made an appearance together in the 2019 music video "Toxic" by Dadju, Gims’ younger brother.
However, in recent times, things seem to have taken a dramatic turn. Blogger Aquababe disclosed that Gims was spotted on June 12 at Disneyland Paris with a new woman, igniting rumors of a fresh romantic chapter for the artist.
