The approval was granted by the Ministry of Sports after Amagaju FC requested permission to return to Huye International Stadium for its home matches.
Amagaju FC had been using Kamena Stadium for its home fixtures. However, ahead of the fourth matchday of the Rwanda Premier League, the club asked to return to Huye Stadium, which it had previously used to host visiting teams.
The Ministry of Sports responded by granting Amagaju FC permission to use the stadium again. However, the club’s upcoming league match against Mukura VS will not be played at Huye Stadium yet, as it still requires approval from the FERWAFA licensing committee.
The fourth-round league fixture is scheduled for October 11, 2026.
Amagaju FC and Mukura VS have traditionally used Huye Stadium as their home ground for both league matches and Peace Cup fixtures before the stadium was closed for renovations.
Huye Stadium was closed for 16 months
Huye International Stadium had been out of use for approximately one year and four months following renovation works aimed at addressing the problem of water accumulating on the pitch.
The renovation also included the installation of new grass to bring the playing surface back to the required standard for hosting major competitions. As a result, both Amagaju FC and Mukura VS had to move their home matches to Kamena Stadium.
As part of efforts to assess whether Huye Stadium was ready to resume hosting competitive matches, it recently hosted a friendly between Mukura VS and APR FC, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
The friendly was played without spectators and was intended to assess the condition of the stadium before it could fully reopen for matches involving teams and fans.
